During your short stay in Mombasa, there are different activities, which can keep you occupied. The colourful island town of Mombassa with its blend of ancient and modern buildings on the Indian Ocean is Kenya’s principal port and the country’s second largest city. A comprehensive tour of the island include the old Arab town, with it’s maze of narrow twisting alleys displaying the beautifully curved doors and verandas, bazaars with curio and antique shops, the Dhow harbour still in use, a Hindu temple, a visit to the Akamba wood carvers and a drive to the bazaar for a short shopping expedition.

The high light of the tour is probably the visit to Fort Jesus. Built in 1593 by the Portuguese to guard the entrance to the old Dhow harbour, it is the island’s Landmark. Four hundred years old, the port still stands and serves as a historical museum.Either have lunch at your hotel or have it at outside your hotel. Then you continue with the excursion to Mamba Villagewhich hosts Africa's largest Crocodile Farm. Your visit will coincide with feeding time at 5:00pm.

Tamarind Dhow Safari
At 12.00pm or 6.30 pm departure from the Tamarind jetty for the lunch cruise or evening cruise respectively. After a welcome cocktail the Tamarind Dhow Nawalicker (meaning Gateway to Heaven) cruises past the Old Town and Fort Jesus. Fantastic sea food meals prepared by the world famous Tamarind Restaurant are enjoyed while a local band plays music to suite all tastes. A tri-lingual guide, fully stocked bar and friendly service all add to the unforgettable atmosphere. 2.45 pm or 10.30 pm return to the jetty and thereafter your hotel.

Mombasa Island Full Day City Tour includes a drive along Mombasa streets lined with intricately carved mosques and historical buildings. Visit the Akamba Handicraft Centre, a source of products direct from the craftsmen. Proceed to the huge and famous Tusks over Moi Avenue erected in 1952 in honour of Queen Elizabeth II first visit to Kenya.  Dominating the entrance of Mombasa Harbor, Fort Jesus offers a
panoramic view of the Old Town. Other places to visit include a drive on Mama Ngina Drive to see the giant baobab trees that live for about 1000 years, and a short walk through the Old Town gives you a chance to a maze of twisting alleyways, ornately carved doors and overhanging balconies.

This ancient and impressive maze of architectural wonder will bring you to the Old Dhow Harbor, which is still occasionally used by Dhows from Arabia and India.

Lunch will be prepared by the Tamarind chefs and will be served whilst the dhow is at anchor in the tranquil waters of Tudor Creek. The Tamarind is well known for its excellent cuisine and particularly its seafood specialties. Vegetarian meals are also available upon request.

After lunch at the Tamarind, our Mombasa Island Full Day City Tour takes us to Haller Park past the Mamba Village crocodile farm along the way.

Enjoy the fascinating and world famous Haller Park. This is a former quarry that has now been transformed into a variety of recreational facilities including forests / nature trails and game sanctuaries, and crocodile and fish farms.

See abundant wildlife including hippo, antelope, birds, reptiles, snakes, giant tortoises, crocodiles and giraffe. In the late afternoon, board your transport to be dropped at your beach hotel or cottage.

One Day Wasini Island
You will be picked from your hotel at around 7.15 am and drive to Wasini Island along Mombasa - Lunga Lunga highway, a distance of 100 kms, arriving at around 8.30 am. Arrive at Shimoni Jet where you will board an Arabic dhow and sail for one hour searching for dolphins. Sail to Kisite marine national park where you will snorkel and swim.

Kisite Marine national park is the second most famous marine park in the world after the Australian Marine Park. It covers an area of 30km2. Animals seen here include turtles, marine tortoise, bearreeffs, coral reefs and different types of marine fishes.

You will have your lunch inside the boat which is mainly sea food and Swahili dishes. After lunch, you will sail along the mangrove swamps and then visit the Wasini Island where you will learn more about the Swahili people and the Arabs history.

In the 10th century, Arabs were slave traders and they used to inter marry with the Bantus at the coast and there we had the Swahili people. After the end of the slave trade in the 17th century, many Africans settled here and so don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the Swahili people. Arrive at the jet at around 4.00 pm and drive back to the hotel.
